I live near Baileys Crossroads. I am sick of the buses. I would like to drive to the pentagon and commute into the city from there. Any ideas about good parking near the pentagon, or even good parking in the city near Gallery Place/ China Town?

Like others have told you, there are No Public Commuter parking lots close near a Metro Station that close into downtown DC. Having worled downtown near L'Enfant Plaza/Federal Center SW, I was lucky to find a carpool and share the expenses of a downtown garage. Though I also live like 2 blocks from a Metro Express Bus stop in Fairfax, all the Northern VA Metro Buses go directly to the Pentagon Hub once the route reaches the I-495 Beltway and it was fairly fast as I only live 2 miles away and very few stops where many commuters park in the shopping centers or along the streets.
Being famiiar with Baileys Crossroads, though it's not that far from the Pentagon, here are some suggestions: (i) drive to a Metro Bus Stop near SEMINARY ROAD HOV Ramp and park along the street bec doing so eliminates all the stop and go taking forever for the Metro Bus to arrive at the Penatgon Hub; (ii) I also worked in Crystal City at one time and you could get a roll of quarters and drive and look for public meter parking (I believe the GREEN Arlington County meters accept coins up to 12 HOURS!) near Pentagon City or Crystal City and make sure you catch the YELLOW LINE to Gallery Place rather than BLUE plus most likely you have a better chance of getting a seat. These 2 locations are 10 times better than driving & finding parking around East Falls Church Metro or any Arlington ORANGE LINE Metro Station simply bec the Orange Line is not a direct trip to Gallery Place...
Best of Luck! FYI I now work closer to home like 10 miles from Burke to Alexandria just off I-395 and King Street, but they are 10 TOUGH & congested miles. Luckily my employer offers free underground parking that spots are based on driving commuter distance and luckily 10 miles is far out enough that I don't have to carpool like other coworkers that live within 5 miles.
Best of Luck and be Grateful you don't live in Prince William County, Stafford going South or Dulles, Loundon, Manassas going to the West.

There are no metro style lots near either location. There is some commercial parking near Pentagon City, at the mall there, however it is quite expensive:
"Garage parking access is available from either 15th Street or Army-Navy Street. Weekday parking fees are: 0-2 hours ($1.50); 2-3 hours ($2); 3-4 hours ($3); 4-5 hours ($4); 5-6 hours ($6); 6-8 hours ($10); 8-10 hrs ($14); and 10-24 hrs ($16) "
Gallery Place/Chinatown is one of the most difficult areas in the city to park at - and the commute in is terrible. My guess is you would find it worse than the busses.
Can I suggest that living near Bailey's Crossroads, East Falls Church, which does have metro parking might be an option for you? The only issue with East Falls Church is that you need to get there relatively early in the morning. Or you could purchase one of those guaranteed metro parking contracts that cost more, but guarantee you a space before 10 AM.

Unlike in NYC, there are no massive commuter parking lots anywhere in the DC metro area. The Metro parking lots would constitute such a system. Your only other option is a park and ride lot but you would have to know someone to share a ride with you - I've included the link to Fairfax County's park and ride lot locations and a link to Commuter Page. Arlington County has no Park and Ride Lots.
Why not drive to Huntington with its 3,090 parking spaces - it may be a little out of your way but the Yellow Line will take you right to Gallery Place / China Town and parking will only cost you $3.75 a day with SmartTrip?
