There are several multi-plexes in the District and surrounding suburbs. Up and beyond those regular fare, D.C. does offer some unique and memorable moving-going experiences. You might enjoy the Smithsonian IMAX theaters (Air & Space Museum and Natural History), the historic Uptown Theater (2001: A Space Odyssey premiered there!) in Cleveland Park or the AFI (American Film Institute) Silver Theater in Silver Spring, Maryland. The Landmark Cinema downtown (E Street) offers a great selection of foreign and 'art' films as does the theater at the National Gallery (free screenings).

If it is in Washington DC, then that would be the Uptown Theater on Connecticut Ave. It has a balcony and the sound system is tight.
