Best time to drive from NYC to DC after Thanksgiving?

We need to drive back from NYC to DC on Saturday or Sunday after Thanksgiving. Has anyone tried very early Saturday morning or Sunday morning (say about 6 AM), or Saturday evening?

Sunday is the worst. Traffic always back up on Sunday no matter what time.
Saturday evening is usually OK.

The Sunday after Thanksgiving is the busiest travel day of the year.
Traffic on Saturday shouldn't be too bad--it's Sunday when traffic becomes incredibly bad. You should be able to travel anytime on Saturday without major delays. If you do have to travel on Sunday, leaving very, very early would be better than leaving later in the day.
