Monuments and memorials, contemporary neighbourhoods, true regional flavour this is exactly what Washington, DC is; a spot unlike every other; just like this page hotelbye . Washington it's your house overseas with free museums and America's top yard. Washington is acknowledged all over the world as a symbol of the United States. Here, the area you cannot miss may be the Capitol. Capitol could be the seat of the House of Representatives and the Senate. The big dome, on the basis of the dome of St. Peter's in Rome, sticks out most importantly different Washington buildings. Like Washington it self, the making has developed over the years since the central part was built between 1793 and 1812. The past supplement, in 1958-62, enlarged the main façade where presidents take the oath. On another area, a marble terrace presents beautiful opinions over the mall and the city. The interior is resplendent with frescoes, reliefs, and paintings, specially the rotunda underneath the great cast-iron dome with a threshold painting by Constantino Brumidi and enormous paintings of moments from American record on the walls.

Last night I heard a promotion for one of the news stations that said something about dress code for the White House. However, I did not hear the broadcast and I could not find anything on the web. The only article I found was that people staffers and visitors, including tourists, should have "proper attire" and flip flop are prohibited. Here's a link to the White House web site that give info about tours, including what you can and can't take into the building:

There is no dress code. Remember that you will be screened, almost like going to the airport, so keep things to a minimum and leave the boy scout knife at home or in the hotel. DC in the summer is going to be hot anyway; dress like you would at home to be comfortable.

You don't really get to see a lot of the building but nevertheless, you should go there. There are many other sights to see in town that a lot of people miss. We really liked the old post office near Union Station. When on the Mall, places to eat can be hard to find if you think there will be signs directing you. Most of the major museums have cafeterias but the legislative office (Rayburn Bldg, Congressional Bldg, et al) have some of the better deals.

For sure dress respectfully. Suggest slacks (not jeans), shirt and sweater or jacket/blazer. It will not be too warm Thurs. so you will need a coat. Leave all carry type things at home as you have to go through detectors so the less stuff you carry or have in pockets the better.

There is not a particular dress code. For tourists, your standard comfortable clothing is acceptable and recommended. DC trips normally involve a lot of walking. I recently chaperoned a field trip to the Capitol Building where we sat in the gallery and watched congress, all the children were dressed in casual clothing (jeans, shorts, t-shirts, sneakers, sandals).

The only exception would be some restaurants require you to follow specific dress codes.
