New York would get colder, but not really by much. The average January high temperature in New York is 43F which is the same as Washington. However the average January low temperature in New York is 27F compared to 29F in Washington.
Washington averages 14.5 inches of snow per year. New York averages 25.1 inches. Since New York is on the coast as opposed to Washington which is further inland, it is more likely to get noreasters.

On a regular day, NYC is always a few degrees colder than Washington DC, however as a tourist in winter - NY is still a better place to visit than Washington DC.

They would probably be similar. I think we hear more about weather in New York probably because it is such a larger area. New York has cities and country living and since snow is a normal part of life in both areas, they are more prepared for snow removal and road conditions than southern states. Places Rated is an almanac that you could find at your library and it would give better statistics.
